Voters in Acadiana were out early Tuesday morning to cast their ballots for the November 3 Presidential and Open Congressional Primary election.
Polling locations across the state opened at 6:00 am. Many locations started seeing long lines even before the first vote had been cast.
Abby Breidenbach had a look at some of the long lines queuing around Acadiana.
On Election Day in Louisiana, polls will remain open until 8:00 pm. By law, those who are in line at 8:00 pm have the right to vote.
When heading out to their polling locations, voters should be prepared to show a photo identification card with a photo and signature or a United State Military Identification card that contains their name and picture.
Those without a photo ID may obtain a free Louisiana special identification card by presenting your voter registration information card to the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) or you may vote by affidavit after correctly answering identifying information before voting.
Voters are reminded to not wear any campaign shirts, hats, buttons or pins when voting. All voting places have a 600 foot campaign free zone.
To find your polling place, visit the voter portal on the Louisiana Secretary of State's website. Voters can also download the Geaux Vote app for free.
