Acadiana Symphony Orchestra celebrates 35 years; presents conductor with Knight's Cross

The Acadiana Symphony Orchestra is celebrating 35 years tonight with their opening night at the Heymann Performing Arts Center.

Familiar faces, founders, and friends will gather to honor the past and celebrate the future of the Symphony. Historic pictures will be displayed as visitors take a look at over three decades of service and growth in the Lafayette community.

After intermission, ASO Music Director and Conductor of 15 years, Mariusz Smolij, will be presented with the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Republic of Poland.

The award will be presented by Polish Consul, Robert Rusiecki. Smolij receives this award as a Polish native who has made outstanding contributions to fostering relationships between Poland and other countries.

The concert begins at 7 p.m.
