Several Acadiana police departments are participating in National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.
The annual event is a collaborative effort between state and local law enforcement agencies and the Drug Enforcement Administration to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from homes in the community.
Agencies are collecting controlled, non-controlled, and over the counter substances.
Among those participating in the area are Church Point, Scott, and Morgan City.
Scott Police also had an officer on hand at their event for a free child seat compliance check. Their event lasted until noon and was a partnership between SPD, Brian Schlesinger State Farm, and Larry Lantier of Cashway Pharmacy.
Some Acadiana agencies are holding their events through Saturday afternoon. More info can be found here.
In addition to the annual event, prescription drugs can be disposed of at any of the 11,000 DEA authorized collectors at any time. To search for a collection site, click here. For more information, you can contact the DEA at 800-882-9539 or visit www.dea.gov for more details and collection sites.
