Acadiana-based robotics team wins prestigious award

The Acadiana-based Robotics Team 3616 Phenomena have been selected for the Chairman's Award for 2020 Bayou Regional in the FIRST Robotics Competition.

According to a release from Team 3616 Teacher Mentor Lisa Ranney, the award received by Team 3616 was from a selection of 60 teams from Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas, China, Turkey and Mexico.

Members of Team 3616 include high school students across the Acadiana area from many different schools and many volunteer mentors from the community. The team's home base is at Comeaux High School.

According to Ranney, the Chairman’s Award is the most prestigious award at the FIRST Robotics Competition, and it honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the mission of the competition.

The FIRST Robotics Competition is an international high school robotics competition.

Team 3616 was founded in 2011 and was the first robotics team in Lafayette.
