A Crowley man has been arrested for allegedly starting a fire inside of a business’s dumpster.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office say 49-year-old Ernel Gobert was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail on June 24 for one count of Simple Arson.

Officials say that in the early morning hours of June 11, 2019 the Crowley Fire Department responded to a dumpster fire behind a business located in the 100 block of North Avenue H. State Fire Marshal deputies were called to assist in determining the origin and cause of the fire.

Agents interviewed witnesses and collected evidence including video surveillance.

Following an investigation, the fire was found to be intentionally set and Gobert was identified as a suspect in the case.

Once located, Gobert allegedly told investigators that he didn’t remember where he was on the night of the fire due to being under the influence of alcohol.

He was arrested.
