A teen in Rayne took some time out of her summer break to provide a bit of fun for seniors at a local nursing home.
13-year-old Samauria Paddio coordinated a bingo game Friday morning at Ellington Nursing Home in Rayne. Paddio says that she saved up her money to buy all the supplies and prizes for the seniors.
“I saved up my money and bought snacks. They do bingo for snacks because residents don’t have money for the vending machines, so they get it for free,” Paddio said.
Paddio says that she wanted visit residents and give them something fun to do and provide them a bit of company.
She says that the inspiration came from her own grandmother who was in a nursing home before she passed away.
“We didn’t realize how much we missed her until she passed,” Paddio explained. “That’s why they need company or something. Anyone who comes, it matters to them.”
Samauria says that she plans on bringing her bingo game and possible other activities to other nursing homes in Crowley and Lafayette.
