Centenarian honored at 2018 Crowley Rice Festival dies at 107

A 107-year-old Acadia Parish resident and Iota native who was honored at last year’s Crowley International Rice Festival has died.

Cecelia Miller Young died Wednesday morning June 12, 2019, in Crowley.

Last year, The centenarian was honored with a royal horse and buggy ride during the International Crowley Rice Festival parade in October. While riding, she was presented with yellow roses.

For her 106th birthday, Young was given the same honorary treatment.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Young was a lifelong resident of Iota and worked 26 years in the cafeteria at Iota High School. She enjoyed quilting, cooking and gardening. She always had a homemade cookie or cake and cup of coffee for anyone who visited, her obituary reads.

There will be no public visitation.
