State Police have identified the person killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Acadia Parish.
Troopers say the crash occurred at around 3:15 on LA 13 near Simon Road. That crash took the life of 93-year-old Ella Hebert of Kaplan.
An initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred when a dump truck traveling north on LA Hwy 13 failed to yield to a 1985 Oldsmobile traveling south on LA Hwy 13 in which Hebert was a passenger. Troopers say for unknown reasons the driver of the dump truck turned left into a private lot causing the Oldsmobile to strike the truck.
Troopers say that the driver of the Oldsmobile and Hebert were unrestrained at the time of the crash. Both sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Ella Hebert succumbed to her injuries while at the hospital.
Speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash on the part of the Oldsmobile’s driver.
The driver of the dump truck was restrained and was uninjured.
An investigation is ongoing. Impairment is unknown at this time but samples were obtained from both drivers. Charges are pending.
