Eunice residents will have the opportunity to express their opinions on two city ordinances at tonight’s council meeting.

The public hearing is scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm to discuss bicycle license and registration in the city.

Police Chief Randy Fontenot says the law that bikes must be registered has been on the books since 1978 but hasn’t been enforced in years.

Fontenot hopes that by re-instituting the ordinance, the city can improve bicycle safety and reduce thefts. Without bicycle registration, Fontenot says that police have no way to check to see if a bicycle may be stolen.

Registration marks will be placed onto the seat pole of the bike or other visible areas of the bicycle. Registration can be done at the Eunice Police Department.

The meeting will be held at Eunice City Hall.
