The Eunice City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to put a sales tax proposal before voters in May.

The 1/4-cent tax would be collected to fund pay raises for police officers and firefighters.

Chief Randy Fontenot said there were a lot of people at the public hearing this evening, but none spoke against the proposal. He said city officials now will move forward with the paperwork necessary to put the proposal on the ballot.

As it stands today, the council hopes to have it on the May 4 ballot.
