State Fire Marshal’s officials say that in the evening hours of February 24, the Crowley Fire Department requested an investigation into the origin and cause of a commercial fire in the 400 block of South Parkerson Avenue in Crowley. Two units were damaged in the fire.

Investigators say the cause of the fire was incendiary.

Through the course of collecting witness statements, investigators say they learned Istre had been living in the storage unit for about a month without utilities. However, the business owner had recently filed an eviction notice.

In an interview with investigators in the following days, Istre provided conflicting statements about his whereabouts the night of the fire and his access to the storage unit.

A warrant was then obtained for Istre’s arrest and he was taken into custody on Thursday, February 28.
