Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Deputies have identified the victim of Sunday morning’s homicide in Branch as 32-year-old Matthew Mark Briscoe of Church Point.

One suspect, 34-year-old Tyla Meche, is still wanted by deputies in connection with the homicide. A second suspect, Kervee Woodard, was arrested following the incident.

Branch homicide victim identified, one suspect wanted

The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating an over night homicide in the community of Branch.

Deputies say they have arrested a man in connection with that homicide but are still looking for the woman involved.

Officers say that several people were traveling in a vehicle in the Branch area. During an argument, one occupant allegedly shot another occupant.  The victim died from a single gunshot wound.

The suspects, identified as Kervee Woodard and Tyla Meche of Church Point, then allegedly removed the victim front the vehicle and fled.

Deputies say they located the victim of the shooting and later located the suspect vehicle which had been abandoned.

APSO says Woodard and Meche fled into a wooded, swampy area of land just west of Branch off of Highway 365.

An alert was sent out earlier overnight as deputies went door to door in an attempt to notify residents as well as to search properties for the suspects.

At 8:00 a.m. Sunday, Woodard was located and taken into custody. Meche is still at large. Deputies are continuing their search for her.

Anyone with contact or who may see her is urged to call APSO at 788-8772.
