The Eunice Police Department says they are investigating a shooting Thursday morning that left one person critically injured.
The shooting occurred around 6:30 am in the 500 block of Juanita Street in Eunice.
Police say they believe the shooting happened as a result of an attempted vehicle burglary. Chief Randy Fontenot says that the homeowner surprised the suspects who were attempting to steal his vehicle and was shot in the process. The suspects then fled the scene without stealing the vehicle.
The suspects are believed to be driving a compact car, possibly a Toyota, according to the chief.
The victim was taken to a local hospital. Police say he is critical condition.
