Charges are pending against a man who allegedly led police on a high speed chase this morning on Interstate 10.
State Police say a trooper was running radar on Interstate 10 and noticed a vehicle with a busted headlight. He started following the vehicle, which was going very fast, state police said.
When the trooper hit his flashing lights, the man sped up, troopers say. At one point, the man was traveling at “well over” 100 miles per hour. Near the Rayne exit, the man left the interstate, passed another vehicle on the shoulder, lost control and careened through a ditch, troopers say.
The car then crashed into a dumpster and into a Popeye’s restaurant, troopers say.
The man sustained moderate injuries and is in the hospital, troopers say. As soon as he is released he will be booked on charges related to the incident, troopers say.
The gas to the restaurant had to be shut off, and the restaurant is closed today for repairs, troopers say.
