A Rayne man is facing attempted second-degree murder charges after an alleged road rage incident in Acadia Parish.

Police say 22-year-old Michael Nugent of Rayne was arrested after he allegedly fired on a vehicle during an incident on Highway 35 just north of Rayne on Sunday night. The sheriff’s department says officers were called after a vehicle, allegedly driven by Nugent, passed another on the highway and turned on a bright light at the rear of his vehicle, blinding the victims

One of the victims told police that he then attempted to pass the suspect’s vehicle when that person began firing at his vehicle.

Rayne Police were able to stop the vehicle as it entered into the city and arrest the suspect, identified as Nugent. Nugent’s bond is set at $250,000.

A passenger in the victim’s vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
