A 46-year-old Eunice woman was arrested on Wednesday following a fatal crash that happened in May.

Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I arrested Karmen Lomas for the crash that took the life of 24-year-old Gregory Leger, of Rayne.  After the crash, a toxicology sample was taken from Lomas.  According to TPR Thomas Gossen, toxicology results ultimately showed that Lomas was under the influence of multiple types of narcotics at the time of the crash, and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Lomas was placed under arrest and charged with vehicular homicide and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

She was booked into the Lafayette Parish Jail, and then later transported and booked into the Acadia Parish Jail.

The crash happened shortly after 6:20 p.m. on May 13, 2018,  on LA 13 near Schultz Road in Acadia Parish.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that Lomas was traveling on LA 13 in a 2017 Ford Expedition. For reasons still under investigation, Lomas crossed the centerline and struck a northbound 2007 Chevrolet Impala operated by Leger, stated Gossen.

Investigators say Leger was not wearing a seatbelt and died from injuries as a result of the crash.

Lomas was wearing a seat belt and sustained moderate injuries, and was transported to a local hospital.
