The mass will be held tonight, Friday, August 3 at 6:00 pm at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Richard. The mass, held each year by the Friends of Charlene Richard Association, is in honor of Charlene Richard who is known as the "Little Cajun Saint." Richard is said to have performed several miracles during her short life. The mass will be celebrated by Charlene’s cousin Fr. Keith Pellerin of Lake Charles.

A rosary will be held at 5:30 pm and a reception will follow the mass for all those who attend. Everyone is invited to attend.

Charlene’s brother and the hospital chaplain who stayed by her side during the final days of her life will speak of her spirit and how it has touched so many lives.

Richard’s grave has become a place of pilgrimage for thousands of people each year.

Charlene died of acute lymphatic leukemia in on August 11, 1959 at the age of 12 and her family has been working to get her canonized by the Catholic Church. The Mass, which is held in her honor each year, will mark 59 years since her death.
