The City of New Iberia held their annual MLK Day celebration.

Monday’s events were held at the Martin Lither King Recreation Center in New Iberia. The theme today was “we are the World.”

Attendees celebrated the life of Doctor Martin Luther King Jr., spreading the word of unity.  “Everyone needs to come together to make the world a better place. By working together we can make things better for ourselves and everyone else,” Program Organizer Deidre Ledbetter said.

The hope from today’s program is that everyone can make a difference by working together.

“To better the community, to better your life, for my life. It can be done together,” Ledbetter said.

Guest speakers at the event were Rev. Sydney Mitchell, Pastor New Iberia Church of the Narzarene.  There was also singing and dancing on the program.

Sponsors for the event were the Iberia Parish Chapter NAACP, New Iberia Recreation Department, PUSH and, New Iberia Chapter Delta Sigma Theta

The community was invited to attend.
