Greene Acres Tree Farm near Abbeville allows families to pick their own live Christmas trees.

“It’s the experience. Like you’re not going to get the same experience if you’re going to Lowes. If you’re going to Lowes you’re just gonna buy a tree and pick it up. Here you’re taking the time to uniquely pick your tree,” said Greene Acres Tree Farm greeter Avery Hebert.

Greene Acres offers many activities for families including a zip-line, gift shop, trampoline, food and more.

The tree farm is unique in and of itself because it’s the only tree farm of its kind in Acadiana.

The closest pine tree farm is two hours north of where Greene Acres is located in Vermilion Parish.

“We’re definitely pioneers to the business. It’s not real easy to grow Christmas trees to this area, but we wanted to do something we could grow old with and our children could continue,” explained Greene Acres Tree Farm owner Reagan Falk.

In addition to the home-grown Cypress Leyland trees, Fraser Firs are hauled in from mountains in North Carolina.

One Youngsville family decided to have a Fraser Fir in their home this year.

“We had a real one years and years ago. But, now we’ve had an artificial tree for a couple years. And, just the smell of it makes it feel like Christmas,” said Youngsville mom Jonelle Desormeaux.

Greene Acres is family oriented not only for guests but for the Faulks who have been planting the trees since 2013.

Their gift shop is named after a beloved family member they lost a few years ago.

“Nora was our fifth child, our second daughter. She passed away when she was a month old. It was a very trying time for our family and so we named our store after her to keep her alive with us during this time in our life,” explained Reagan Faulk.

The Faulks and their extended family will keep the Christmas tree farm open until they’re sold out of all 600 trees.
