The Better Business Bureau is advising the public to be cautious of organizations taking donations under the name “Cajun Navy” following Hurricane Michael.
The BBB says that an investigation done by the Acadiana branch found that several entities identifying themselves as the “Cajun Navy” appeared to be charitable organizations, but were not.
Several of the entities identified by the BBB were actually for-profit businesses accepting donations in the guise of a charity. The group asks that consumers wishing to donate to organizations providing relief to areas affected by the hurricane do their research first.
The Better Business Bureau supplied a list of tips to ensure your donations are going to those affected by Hurricane Michael. Included in those tips is a list of accredited charities working with the BBB.
