The Broussard City Council approved an introductory ordinance to accept a “small cell wireless” contract with Cox Communications.

According to council members, that deal would help improve wireless service in city limits and help first responders during natural disasters.

The council will vote on final adoption next month.

“The addition of small cell service in Broussard will help us in emergency situations, but specifically, it helps us increase our wireless capabilities in our city.”

At that same meeting, the council tabled discussion of a plan to allow Southside High School to use the St. Julien sports complex for athletic events.

City leaders will meet with the school board to discuss a contract for the school to use the park before the item comes up for a vote.
