A 36-year-old Rayne man was arrested Monday after police say he allegedly caused a vehicle crash in an attempt to kill himself and others.

Brandon Ronkieth Mouton was arrested March 9 following an investigation by the Rayne Police Department into a February 25 crash.

Police say that Mouton allegedly tried to kill himself and six other passengers, including two toddlers, by causing the crash.

According to police, Mouton was the front seat passenger at the time of the incident and was having an argument with the driver when he allegedly exclaimed, "I will kill us all" and jerked the wheel.

Mouton's actions, police say, caused the vehicle to collide into the Bank of Commerce building in Rayne.

After the crash, Mouton allegedly fled the scene before officers arrived.

Police say three adults and two toddlers were rear-seat passengers at the time of the crash. An adult and both toddlers were taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

Mouton was booked on the following:

  • Six counts of Attempted First Degree Murder
  • Dating Partner Abuse with Child Endangerment

His bond was set at $32,500.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Monesha Mouton, was arrested and charged with DWI 1st offense with Child Endangerment and two violations of the child seat belt law.
