ACADIA PARISH, La. — On June 8, 2023, at around 1:47 pm, the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office responded to the scene of a hostage situation in Church Point.

The Church Point Police Department received a call concerning a domestic disturbance. The caller stated the suspect was inside a residence with children and a gun, according to Church Point Police Chief Dale Thibodeaux.

Arriving Church Point Police Officers were informed by bystanders and the victim of the domestic abuse that the suspect had locked himself inside the apartment with a gun and two six-month-old twins. Responding Officers secured the exterior of the residence and attempted contact with the suspect, Chief Thibodeaux says.

After negative contact, the Church Point Police Department requested assistance from the Acadia Parish Sheriffs as well as the Louisiana State Police Negotiators and Swat Teams.

Several attempts at contact were made and the suspect provided no response. Authorities ultimately made entry into the residence where the two children were found unharmed.

The suspect was no longer inside the residence at that time. He is believed to have locked the doors and fled before police could set up a perimeter, officials report.

The suspect has been identified as Isaiah Dupree, 24, of Opelousas, and warrants are being prepared for his arrest.

Church Point Police say more information is to come later.
