RAYNE, La. — The Louisiana State Police say that a Rayne man involved in a motorcycle accident on Nov. 21 has died as a result of his injuries from that crash.
According to a release from LSP, troopers were notified on Nov. 21, at approximately 11:30 p.m., of a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on U.S.Highway 90 (E. Texas Ave.) near Llama Road in Acadia Parish.
The crash ultimately claimed the life of Javier Senegal, 25, of Rayne.
LSP say that the initial investigation revealed a 2019 Suzuki GSX motorcycle, being driven by Senegal, was traveling east on U.S. 90 at a high rate of speed.
As Senegal approached a slower moving vehicle also traveling east, he applied his brakes as he passed that vehicle on the shoulder.
The motorcycle began to skid and fell on its side causing Senegal to become unseated.
At the same time, a 2017 Honda Accord, being driven by 24-year-old Shayna Meaux, was backing onto U.S. 90 from a private lot.
Senegal and the motorcycle struck the rear quarter-panel of the backing Accord.
The release states that Senegal was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, but on Nov. 26, Senegal succumbed to his injuries.
LSP states that Meaux and a front seat passenger were properly restrained and neither were injured.
Meaux did submit a breath sample which indicated a blood alcohol concentration of 0.082g% in her system, the release states. She was subsequently charged with first-offense DWI.
A toxicology sample was obtained from Senegal for analysis.
LSP says that this crash remains under investigation.
Acccording to LSP, Troop I has investigated 53 fatal crashes resulting in 58 deaths in 2020.
