A 32-year-old man has been arrested and a woman is wanted in connection with a shooting that stemmed from a fight between family members.
Rayne Police say that on Sunday, August 9, 2020, at around 2:00 a.m., officers responded to the 500 block of Reynolds Street for a shooting incident.
The investigation determined that a family card game allegedly escalated into a fight between two family members.
31-year-old Telisha Simon allegedly contacted her boyfriend, 32-year-old Rayward Clayton Gibson who went to the scene. Police says that Rayward allegedly entered the house without authorization from the residents and attacked his girlfriend's 19-year-old brother and a 49-year-old woman. Back outside the house, Rayward allegedly fired two shots through the front door striking another 19-year-old that was not involved in the initial fight.
This victim was treated at an area hospital and released.
Rayward Gibson was arrested on Monday, August 10 and booked on charges of home invasion, attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm. Rayward was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail.
An arrest warrant, according to Rayne Police Chief Stelly, has been submitted for Telisha Simon for accessory after the fact after. Stelly says that Simon allegedly lied multiple times to investigators and even claimed to be the shooter in an apparent effort to protect her boyfriend.
