EUNICE — Faculty and staff at LSU Eunice are welcoming the school's new chancellor.

Dr. Nancee Sorenson takes over for Interim Chancellor Bill Crow.

Before becoming the community college's fifth chancellor, Dr. Sorenson started her career in education as a counselor.

"I applied for this job, and when I came for the interview, it just captured my heart; it really did," said Sorenson.

Most recently, she worked as president of Hillsborough Community College in Tampa. She says most of her career has been spent at two-year colleges.

"What I love about what I do is that I see this as an enterprise. We are here to improve the community. We're here to improve our citizenry, so that they have opportunities for upward economic mobility," explained Sorenson.

LSU President Dr. F. King Alexander is confident that Sorenson is the perfect candidate for the role.

"With so many other experiences that she brings, from Tampa, Florida, to Tucson, Arizona, she brings a wealth of experience and a wealth of knowledge about how a two-year school can excel in this day in age," said the university's president.

The new chancellor believes everyone deserves the opportunity of education.

"What I'm hoping to accomplish is to have greater access to education by all of the people that live here, support from our community, and it doesn't mean just one-way support coming to us; it means us supporting them," said Sorenson.
