ACADIA PARISH — A Gueydan man has been arrested in connection with a homicide investigation near Midland.
The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office says the homicide occurred Thursday evening in the 500 block of Oriole Road. The Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to the scene regarding a woman who did not return from a wooded area. She was last seen entering that area with a man she knew, according to deputies.
People at a home nearby suspected foul play and notified authorities.
Upon arrival, deputies say they began a search of the area believed to be where the man and woman were last located. During the search, deputies discovered the body of the woman who they say was stabbed multiple times. The woman has not been identified.
Deputies, following an investigation, uncovered evidence which identified the suspect as 25-year-old Aaron Saporito of Gueydan. Saporito was arrested and booked into the Acadia Parish Jail. He was charged with one count of Second Degree Murder with a $500,000 bond and one count of Obstruction of Justice with a $10,000 bond.
A motive is unknown and an investigation is ongoing.
