ACADIA PARISH, La. - A home was destroyed following an early morning fire west of Iota.
Firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire around 3:30 a.m. on Friday, according to the Iota Volunteer Fire Department's Facebook page. Once on the scene, firefighters discovered a multi story residence completely engulfed in flames
Des Cannes Highway (LA 98) was closed as the sheriff's office and fire departments responded to the structure fire and gas leak, according to a spokesperson for the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office.
Firefighters fought until dawn to get the fire under control and remained on scene extinguishing hot spots until around noon. Five surrounding fire departments assisted in extinguishing the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
