A FEMA Drive-Thru Disaster Recovery Center is now open in Acadia Parish to assist victims of Hurricane Laura.

The center is staffed with FEMA personnel who can scan documents and ask questions about assistance programs, all with COVID-19 guidelines in place. Visitors are asked to remain in their vehicles, and a specialist will receive documents through the window and return them.

The Southside Community Center in Rayne will be open 7 days a week from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. No appointments are necessary. Along with the location in Acadia Parish, another opened Saturday in Beauregard Parish.

The centers are located at:

Acadia Parish -
Southside Community Center
403 4th St., Rayne

Beauregard Parish -
War Memorial Civic Center
250 W. 7th St., DeRidder

"Some people may want that in person, face-to-face sort of interaction so they can ask all their questions," said FEMA Spokesperson Lenisha Smith. "It's a bit more helpful and a little bit more convenient to survivors."
