A Crowley woman has been convicted on a misdemeanor election fraud charge.

Delores Handy was found guilty by a six-person jury in state court in Lafayette.

According to the bill of information in the case, she purposely failed to mark an elderly voter’s ballot in the manner dictated by the voter. She originally was charged with two counts, but one of the voters involved has since passed away, so that charge was dismissed.

The case was prosecuted by the Attorney General's Office.

Handy faces up to one year in the parish jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

Though the offense occurred in Acadia Parish, the case was transferred to Lafayette Parish by motion of the defendant, court records show.
