The City of Crowley is honoring the life of an influential resident and the city's "biggest champion" on Saturday.

Charlotte Jeffers served as the city's tourism director for many years and recently passed away.

Residents were asked to honor Jeffers by leaving flowers, balloons, and cards in front of the Rice Theatre until 3 p.m. Some are honking in remembrance as they drive by.

According to officials, the theatre was a place that Jeffers loved and worked hard to promote.

"We will miss her," said advisor to the board of directors for Crowley Main Street. "Everyone knew her as 'Goldie,' and she supported the rice industry, she supported the Main Street industry, the tourism industry. She put her heart into it and she built the tourism in our city to what it is now."
