Nearly two weeks after public outcry over the Crowley Animal Shelter, the city is entering into an agreement with an animal rescue group.
In a unanimous decision, the council voted to make its shelter a no kill rescue.
Haseya's New Beginning Animal Rescue will manage operation at the shelter with help from the city.
Recently, the shelter was in the news after a different rescue group posted on social media claiming the city would begin euthanizing all dogs. Crowley Mayor Tim Monceaux denied those initial claims and said the shelter does try to adopt dogs, but there was an ordinance in place.
Fast forward a couple of weeks and Mayor Monceaux, a self-proclaimed animal lover himself, began working with the City of Rayne to solidify a no-kill ordinance. In February, Rayne's animal shelter became a no-kill shelter and began working with Haseya's New Beginning.
Both Crowley Mayor Tim Monceaux and Rayne Mayor Chuck Robichaux say it's important to be united on this front and to work with a group committed to finding these animals forever homes.
Monceaux said, "Rayne and Crowley will be in a great partnership along with Mrs. Kellie and Haseya's New Beginning to make sure this runs effectively. We will assist her every way we can and we wish her the best of luck. We will support her very much."
Kelli Briscoe with Haseya's New Beginning said, "We change our lives for them. They go to new homes where they are loved, they're part of the family and we make sure everything is perfect for their new beginning."
"Anybody that loves animals as much as she does has a special place in heaven for sure," said Mayor Robichaux. "People should embrace her."
Haseya's needs donations for vaccines, vet bills, medication and they're looking for volunteers.
