All lanes of I-10 East reopen following fatal crash near Rayne

7:30 pm update: All lanes are now open on I-10 East at LA 35 (Rayne). Congestion has reached 10 miles in length.

1:00 pm update: The left lane remains blocked on I-10 East at LA 35 (Rayne) for vehicle recovery. Congestion has reached seven miles.

UPDATE: One lane of traffic has reopened following a fatal two-vehicle crash along I-10 near Rayne.

State Police updated that the crash has caused back-ups in both eastbound and westbound lanes on I-10. Clean-up is expected through a majority of the day. Police are working to open one lane as soon as possible.

Law enforcement are still on scene and ask that drives avoid the area and expect delays.

UPDATE: The Rayne Police Department is working a fatal two-vehicle crash on I-10 where one vehicle is on fire.

The Eastbound lane of I-10 remains closed at this time.

At 6:46 AM, Rayne Police received a call of a crash and a vehicle on fire on I-10 Eastbound near the on ramp.

According to the department, Rayne Police and Rayne Volunteer Fire responded and the fire was extinguished.

The initial investigation revealed a pickup truck was traveling westbound on I-10 and crossed the median striking an 18 wheeler which was traveling eastbound.

Both vehicles then entered the median with the pickup truck catching on fire. The driver and a passenger of the 18 wheeler were transported to a Lafayette hospital for evaluation.

Police say the male driver of the pickup truck was killed in the crash and his name will not be release until the family can be notified.

The investigation is ongoing.

Congestion is now at five miles in length and police are asking motorists to avoid the area and use an alternate route.
