CHURCH POINT — Acadia St. Landry Hospital is moving after 52 years.

Starting next year, crews will begin construction on a new facility on Highway 35.

Since its opening in the 1960s, the Acadia St. Landry Hospital has been located on S Broadway Street in Church Point.

The building will be twice the size of the current hospital.

"Church Point is a growing community, and that's what we need. We need more services. We need more jobs. We need more industry," said Mayor Ryan "Spanky" Meche.

ER and diagnostic services will be expanded at the new hospital. There will be more beds and spacious patients rooms. Patients and their families will also be able take advantage of the multi-purpose room and community trail.

"The convenience of being closer to home and having those services offered here in their own hometown, eliminating them to have to travel out of town," said hospital CEO Cindy Walters.

The expansion of services will create more jobs.

"That's a wonderful thing for Church point because more jobs, more people, the more people moving here for opportunities," said Mayor Meche.

Walters says they're constructing the hospital with the community in mind.

"We are listening to their needs, and we are attempting to put into place the desires that they're expressing," said Walters.

The hospital will open in the summer of 2022.
