A bicyclist was killed Thursday morning after being struck by a school bus on LA Hwy 13 in Acadia Parish.
State Police say the incident occurred on March 12 around 6:30 am near Faulk Road and claimed the life of 49-year-old Michael Bourgeois of Sulphur.
According to State Police, an investigation revealed that the Bourgeois was traveling north on LA Hwy 13 when he was struck from behind by a Blue Bird school bus.
Troopers say Bourgeois' bicycle was not equipped with lights and that the bus driver was unable to avoid a collision.
Bourgeois was transported to a local hospital in critical condition where he later died.
18 students were on the bus at the time of the crash and state police say that those students and the bus driver were uninjured in the crash.
Toxicology samples were obtained from Bourgeois and, according to state police, the results are pending. A breath sample was taken from the bus driver which troopers say indicated there was no alcohol in his system.
The crash remains under investigation.
