The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office is warning residents of scams regarding coronavirus stimulus checks.

Sheriff K.P. Gibson says that scammers are using the recently passed stimulus package as a means to conduct fraudulent activity.

The activity is done through text message, according to Sheriff Gibson, and directs recipients to a link for COVID-19 stimulus relief. The link then asks for personal information to process the relief funding

Federal agencies have said that no information regarding the stimulus relief will be sent to anyone via text message. Funds will also not be sent via text.

The Louisiana Office of Financial Institutions says that people need to be aware and guard against these types of scams.
