CROWLEY, La. — The Acadia Parish School Board is looking at several different scenarios for its students to return to class this fall after the COVID-19 pandemic closed schools for much of the spring.

Acadia Parish School Superintendent Scott Richard says that any future plans are dependent upon a number of variables and factors that all school systems are working through.

Richard confirmed that the top scenario would be a regular start back to school for students this fall, which is set for Aug. 12 according to the school’s 2020-2021 calendar.

According to Richard, another scenario would be for a more modified start to the school year that would depend on the occupancy and social distancing guidelines in place by the fall. Students would alternate in-person appearances on certain days of the week and remote learning on the other days.

The third scenario that Richard says the board is looking at would be for a complete distance learning approach for students if all schools are not able to be utilized.

Richard says that he expects more definitive information on returning to school to come from the Resilient Louisiana Commission's K-12 Education subgroup later this week.

The Louisiana Department of Education and the Governor's Office are also expected to release more information later this month to local schools on how students may return in the fall.
