Acadia Sheriff KP Gibson is crediting a deputy's keen eye to solving a vehicle theft and possibly several burglaries in the Maurice area.

On October 12, the deputy came across a vehicle which had been reported stolen. After confirming the vehicle to be stolen, the deputy pulled the vehicle over. The deputy arrested the occupants without incident, the sheriff says.

The deputy did an inventory of the stolen vehicle and discovered property which allegedly was stolen from the Maurice area. Deputies met with Maurice authorities and confirmed that the property within the vehicle was stolen from their area.

“Our deputies work hard to prevent and resolve criminal activity in our parish. I am proud of not only this successful arrest, but of all their efforts for our citizens,” Gibson says.

The two men in the car were arrested.

Rodney Lagrange III, 21 of Lafayette was booked with possession of stolen property.

Devante Lagrange, 25 of Lafayette, was booked with Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Marijuana and Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Facility.

The men are cousins, deputies say.

The investigation is continuing and more charges are possible, the sheriff said.
