Friday, Fred’s Inc. a discount retailer, announced it will close an additional 49 under-performing stores with two located in Acadiana.
In April, the retailer announced the closure of 159 stores across the US with four Fred’s stores in Acadiana being included in the list. Those stores, which included Lafayette and Carencro locations closed at the end of May.
The company says the new closures are part of an effort to optimize store footprint. Pharmacies will remain open at all locations which have a pharmacy.
Fred’s decision to close the additional 49 stores is due to recent store performances and the timing of lease expiration, among other factors, according to a release.
Two stores in Acadiana are a part of the newest list of closures.
