ST MARY PARISH, La. – A good Samaritan rescued four people after their boat capsized in Vermilion Bay on Sunday.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office got the call around 5:50 pm on June 9 in reference to a capsized vessel and four people in the water, two adults and two juveniles. Their location was three miles from Cypremort Point and three miles from Jefferson Island.

Deputies attempted to make contact with the people in the water, but were unsuccessful, according to press release from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies then responded to the area. While en route the deputies made contact with the US Coast Guard in an attempt to ping a location from the victim’s cell phone. The Coast Guard also advised they were sending a helicopter to the area. Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office was also notified.

After launching the patrol vessel it was learned that a good Samaritan had located the four people and was towing them in to the Quintana Boat Launch.
