NEW ORLEANS – As the investigation continues, toxicology results show that the man involved in an officer involved shooting last week was five times over the legal limit of impairment, according to police.

Forty-two-year-old Eric Kullander’s blood alcohol concentration at the time of the incident was .416g%.

Investigators with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations have obtained an arrest warrant charging Kullander with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Kullander is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital, and upon his release will be booked into the Orleans Parish Prison on the warrant.

According to a spokesman for state police, on Thursday, May 31, 2019, Kullander made an illegal turn onto Bourbon Street, traveling against traffic toward pedestrians. Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, but Kullander allegedly refused to comply. As he accelerated toward the crowd, a trooper shot him to prevent possible death and serious injuries, the spokesman said.

Kullander sustained one gunshot wound. His injuries were not life-threatening.

This is still an active and on-going investigation. No further information is available at this time.

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana State Police are identifying the suspect involved in an officer-involved shooting Thursday night on Bourbon Street.

Forty-two-year-old Eric Kullander was arrested for resisting an officer with force or violence, aggravated flight from an officer, reckless operation, and one-way roadway. He was booked into the Orleans Parish Prison today.

According to a spokesman for state police, Kullander made an illegal turn onto Bourbon Street, traveling against traffic toward pedestrians. Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, but Kullander allegedly refused to comply. As he accelerated toward the crowd, a trooper shot him to prevent possible death and serious injuries, the spokesman said.

Kullander sustained one gunshot wound. His injuries were not life-threatening.

With the assistance of New Orleans police, Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations is currently conducting the ongoing investigation.
