BATON ROUGE – Louisiana State Police are investigating their third officer-involved shooting this week.
The agency’s Bureau of Investigations was contacted by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office Saturday morning to investigate an officer-involved shooting in Baton Rouge.
At 8:30 a.m., East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies responded to a crash in the area of Pecan Tree near Jade Avenue. Troopers say the crash may have been a result of road rage.
Deputies came into contact with the driver involved in the crash, and during that interaction, the driver allegedly exited the vehicle and got into another vehicle before fleeing the scene.
According to a spokesperson for state police, at least one deputy fired their gun at some point during the counter.
Upon fleeing the scene, the suspect allegedly crashed into at least one deputy unit before crashing the vehicle on Burbank Drive. The suspect was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. No one was else was injured.
The investigation remains active.
Thursday night, state police were involved in an officer-involved shooting when a person drove the wrong way down Bourbon Street in New Orleans toward pedestrians.
The same night, troopers were called to investigate an officer-involved shooting in Jeanerette.
