A passenger injured in an April 18 accident has died, State Police say.

The accident happened on LA Hwy 385 about ¼ mile south of E. Friesen Road.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 1997 GMC pickup truck driven by 92-year-old Edward W. Milsted Jr. of Lake Charles was traveling south on LA Hwy 385. Milsted failed to yield to oncoming traffic while turning left into a private driveway and turned into the path of a northbound 2006 Dodge pickup truck driven by an Iowa woman. The vehicle Milsted was driving was struck on the passenger side by the vehicle driven by Conner.

The front seat passenger in Milsted’s vehicle, 91-year-old Betty C. Milsted, was injured and transported to a local hospital. She died on Monday, state police say.

Edward Milsted Jr. sustained minor injuries. He was cited for failure to yield while turning. Both of the Milsteds were properly restrained, troopers say.

The driver of the other vehicle and her passenger were both properly restrained and were not injured.

On April 29, 2019, Troop D was notified by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office that Betty C. Milsted had succumbed to her injuries sustained during the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

Troop D has investigated 11 fatal crashes resulting in 13 deaths.
