PRESS RELEASE

Entering its fifth year since adoption, PlanLafayette – Lafayette’s Comprehensive Plan – is expected to see updates and a five-year amendment in 2019. In celebration of this anniversary year, Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) will host informational and interactive monthly sessions from April through December aimed at re-engaging citizens and gathering public input.

Various LCG departments and initiatives, including Project Front Yard and CREATE, are partnering with the Acadiana Planning Commission, Downtown Development Authority, Lafayette Economic Development Authority, OneAcadiana, and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to host activities around monthly themes including Embracing the Parish, Strategizing Economic Growth, Diversifying our Economy, Digital Citizen Engagement, Sustainability and Green Infrastructure, and Infrastructure Planning.

The first monthly public events on April 30 are themed “Embracing the Parish” and are organized and hosted by the Acadiana Planning Commission. Through the years, Lafayette Parish has exceeded population growth projections. With this trend expected to continue through 2030 and beyond, the day’s sessions will focus on the impacts of parish-wide growth, highlighting parish-wide economic resilience and drainage. Starting at 10 a.m., the morning session will feature mayors from each municipality within Lafayette Parish showcasing their goals and accomplishments on issues such as infrastructure, economic growth and community development. Continuing to highlight parish-wide growth, the afternoon session begins at 2 p.m. and will include discussions on Hazard Mitigation Grant Program drainage projects, as well as an introduction to the regional gauge network.

Both sessions are open to the public, free of charge, however registration is required to ensure adequate space.

All events will be posted on Facebook at www.facebook.com/lafayettecomprehensiveplan and http://lafayettela.gov/ComprehensivePlan/Pages/the-plan.aspx.

PlanLafayette Week was first held in 2014 and was originally conceived to introduce citizens to the ideas and action items recommended in the draft comprehensive plan. Since the plan’s adoption, it has become an event series where plan successes are celebrated and new initiatives are launched.
