The Lafayette Parish School Board voted to interview two candidates – both current employees – for the interim superintendent position.

Irma Trosclair, the board’s current assistant superintendent, and Bart Thibodaux, the system’s current director of special education, will be interviewed for the post. The motion passed 8-0.

The meeting to interview the candidates will be on April 24 at 5:30 p.m.

Prior to selecting those two candidates, the board eliminated Larry Dichiara, Dee Oscar Fowler and Isaac Carrier, because they couldn’t provide proof that they are eligible to serve as a superintendent in Louisiana.

If the public would like the nominees to answer their questions, email them to Joe Centanni. Or as always, special meeting is open to the public.

Earlier this month, nine people applied for the post. One person, Vermilion Superintendent Jerome Puyau, has withdrawn his name from consideration. If you’d like to see the applications, click here.

Today, the board will set a date and time for a special board meeting to interview up to three of the candidates. According to the agenda, three possible dates are April 23, 24 and 25.

The board also must decide how to handle the voting for candidates, and all board members must select a list of up to three candidates they’d like to interview.

The public can submit questions they’d like asked by sending them to jcentanni@lpssonline.com no later than 5 calendar days prior to the date for the Special Board Meeting to conduct the interviews.

Also during the meeting, the board will recognize the winners of School Support Employee of the Year awards at each school.

After the regular board meeting is over, the board will meet in special session to discuss the next fiscal year budget.
