Today’s Cool School is Duson Elementary School!

Duson Elementary held their annual Black History Program titled: “A Musical Journey Through Black History!”. Duson’s 4th and 5th grade students performed for the student body as well as parents and community guests. Special guest and performer, Mr. Hebert Green, opened the program by introducing the audience to the djembe drum, tung drum, talking drum, shekere, agogo bell, and clave . The program consisted of a brief history of African, Gospel, Jazz, Soul, and Rap music. They performed various musical influences in African American culture throughout history including African Dance, Gospel Soloists, Louis Armstrong, The Jackson 5, and The Sugar Hill Gang. In closing, the performers sang the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing”. The performance was educational, entertaining, and inspirational.
