Angola shakedown results in corrections officer arrest

An Angola employee has been arrested on various drug charges following a crackdown on drugs and contraband at the facility.

Louisiana State Penitentiary says 40-year-old Crystal Jenkins of Woodville, Mississippi was arrested following a  shakedown during Thursday’s 5:00 a.m. shift change at the prison. Investigators allegedly discovered various drugs inside Jenkins’ vehicle.

West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Deputies booked Jenkins with three counts of Distribution of Schedule 1 Narcotics (ecstasy, synthetic marijuana, marijuana), one count of Distribution of Schedule 2 Narcotics (heroin), Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule 2 (methamphetamine), and one count of Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution.

During Thursday’s shakedown, investigators say they allegedly found 14 grams of heroin, 1 ounce of heroin powder, 11.8 ounces of marijuana, 3.4 ounces of synthetic marijuana, 4 ounces of methamphetamine, and a digital scale inside Jenkins’ vehicle.

The drugs and the scale were packaged inside a coffee bag and gift wrapped.

Jenkins had been employed at Louisiana State Penitentiary since August 13, 2018. Officials say that during questioning, she admitted to the crimes to DOC investigators, and resigned. She was employed as a corrections officer at the prison.

An investigation is ongoing.
