The Town of Leonville has experienced problems with their water supply system and a boil water advisory is now in effect.

Officials say a 2-inch main water line was broken by an outside contractor on Highway La 103. Town personnel repaired the line and will be flushing the area.

Because of these problems, the water system says that the water produced could be of questionable microbiological quality. A boil advisory is now in effect for a number of customers affected until further notice.

The areas listed below are included in this boil advisory:

  • Starting at 144 Hwy La 103 , including Pelafigue Lane, Melancon Loop, Hummingbird Lane, and Klein Road ending at 1543 Hwy La 103
  • Leonville Elementary School, Gym, and Cafeteria
  • 89  homes and one Leonville Elementary School
  • One water sample on main @ 184 Hwy La 103.

This advisory will remain in effect until rescinded by the Town of Leonville Water System through DHH.

What to do during a boil advisory?

It is recommended that all consumers disinfect their water before consuming it (including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods by the following means:

Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container.  The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil.  (The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.)
