A police department in Texas is investigating after an infants body was found buried in a flower pot at a local cemetery.
Police say the caretaker of Perry Cemetery in Carrollton, Texas located the infant’s body as he emptied a flower pot that was “out of place.”
The baby was determined by the coroner’s office to be a girl, about 34 weeks to full term weighing just under six pounds. The infant still had its umbilical cord attached, according to a release. The child’s race could not be determined.
The department says they are awaiting information to determine if the child was born alive.
The caretaker reportedly told police that the flower pot was placed in the cemetery sometime between Wednesday, February 27 and Saturday, March 2.
The police department says that they hope to identify the child to ensure that she is properly buried.
