Tulane tops Louisiana 7-3

NEW ORLEANS (Press Release) – Louisiana was unable to make its way back into Wednesday night’s game after giving up two early home runs and eventually fell to Tulane, 7-3, at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (10-12, 2-1) had its chances throughout the contest, leaving nine runners on base, including four in the final four innings of the game.

Senior Kole McKinnon went 2-for-2 at the plate, with both of hits being two baggers, and produced two RBI. Fellow senior Orynn Veillon also recorded two hits and was scored twice by McKinnon.

Sophomore Hayden Cantrelle continued his hot streak with a solo home run in the fifth. Cantrelle has now hit five home runs in the last four games and has extended his hitting streak to 10-straight contests.

Brock Batty (1-1) took the loss for the Ragin’ Cajuns, giving up three earned runs on six hits in 2.1 innings pitched.

Tulane (14-7) hit two early home runs to take a 3-0 lead before Louisiana plated its first run of the contest, which came in the fourth inning when McKinnon hit a double to score Veillon and cut the lead to 3-1.

The Green Wave came back in a big way with a three spot in the bottom of the fourth, but Cantrelle’s homer in the fifth and another McKinnon double in the sixth moved the score to 6-3 with three innings remaining.

Louisiana was not able to plate any additional runs in the final four innings as it fell to Tulane, 7-3.

The Ragin’ Cajuns resume conference play this upcoming weekend, March 22-24, when they welcome Appalachian State for a three-game series at Russo Park. Game times are set for 6 p.m., on Friday, 2 p.m., on Saturday and 1 p.m., on Sunday.
